"A Trip to the Moon" and John Carney Magic Show
Join us for two special nights of true magic...May 21st and 22nd at 8 pm as The Magic Castle presents a special showing of magician George Mêlées "A Trip to the Moon", preceded by the John Carney live magic theatre show.
Directed, produced, written by and starring magician George Mêlées "A Trip to the Moon" was first released on May 22, 1902. The special effects quickly captivated moviegoers and proved to have a more lasting effect. Today the 13-minute film might seem a bit primitive, but just imagine what it was like when the entire idea of moving images was still a new and even peculiar idea. Despite the intervening years and technical advances, the film's immense charm and wit haven't aged at all and it still appeals to modern audiences.
Magician John Carney blends mind-blowing sleight of hand with intelligence, taste, and wit, into a unique evening of pure entertainment. This is definitely NOT your typical "magic show". Carney's approach is smart, engaging, and often hilarious.
Pin-balling between jaunty comedic riffs and astonishing sleight of hand, Carney will have you reeling with his hilarious audience participation segments, as well as his embodiment of multiple characters. He's not like any magician you've seen before.
Carney has won more awards from Hollywood's Academy of Magical Arts (Magic Castle) than anyone in their history. CarneyMagic is a show that will amaze you, as it charms and delights.
Show dates are May 21st and May 22nd, doors open at 7 pm, and our shows begin at 8 pm. Tickets for these speical evenings are $35 per person, general admission and are available online, at Seastrand (919 Linden Ave., by cash or check only) and at the theater box office one hour prior to showtime.
