California Olive Oil Tasting
Slow Food Olive Oil Tasting at California Olive Oil Council's office, March 13, 2011
Come and be an olive oil taster for the afternoon. Learn more than you even wanted to know about California extra-virgin olive oil.
This will be an opportunity to hone your olive oil tasting skills and learn to distinguish the flavor profiles of different olive oils. Some are buttery from ripe fruit, some are grassy from greener fruit, and some have both flavors.
Fran Gage will lead a tasting of five oils, including some olio nuovo, the fresh, unfiltered oil that is bottled immediately after milling. She will also suggest ways to use them in the kitchen.
Fran Gage has been slurping olive oil for the California Olive Oil Council taste panel for seven years. She is also on the UC Extension research panel and on the UC Davis Olive Center panel which was recently awarded accreditation by the International Olive Council. Her latest book is "The New American Olive Oil."
