Mornings With You - Sat April 30 @ 8PM
Melodia's acclaimed 32-voice ensemble, Cynthia Powell Artistic Director, joins forces with dynamic flute duo, Flutronix, and a stellar ensemble of instrumental players to present an appealing, all-American program this spring.
The centerpiece of the program is the world premiere of Mornings with You, a commissioned work by award-winning composer Christina Whitten Thomas. Luscious poetry by Brooklyn-based poet Pam McAllister is brought to life by Whitten Thomas's lyrical melodies for flute, clarinet, French horn, piano and women's voices.
Also on the program, Charles Martin Loeffler's By the Waters of Babylon/Psalm 137 a lush and sensuous work for women's voices, organ, 2 flutes, harp and cello; Ned Rorem's cycle of six contrasting songs, What is Pink?, and Meredith Monk's Quarry Weave II.
Performers include Melodia Women's Choir, Cynthia Powell, Artistic Director; Flutronix Nathalie Joachim & Allison Loggins-Hull; Taisiya Pushkar, piano; Rachel Drehmann, French horn; Debra Kreisberg, clarinet; Julia Bruskin, cello; and Fran Duffy, harp.
The 70-minute concert includes an instrumental interlude by Flutronix.
