Burlesque for Peace, Spring - 2011
Ruby Joule and Coco Lectric of The Jigglewatts will produce the upcoming Burlesque for Peace benefit burlesque and variety show on March 1, 2011 at 8:00pm at the ND at 501 Studios in Austin.
Historically, Burlesque For Peace has been a semi-annual benefit show with proceeds going to everything from body armor for the troops to PeaceOneDay.org. Last year the producers brought it back home to benefit a local and very deserving cause; a fund for the small children of a local artist who passed away unexpectedly.
This year the production torch has been passed on to Ruby Joule and Coco Lectric of The Jigglewatts Burlesque. They loved the idea of "giving where they live" and wanted to carry on the tradition. This spring they've selected a cause right from the local burlesque and performance art community: Miss Sarah "Agent Red" Johnston- a magnificent Austin aerialist, designer and producer. She suffered a horrible accident while performing on New Year's Eve in San Francisco, breaking both arms and fracturing her skull. She required extensive surgery and hospital follow-ups as a result.
The benefit show has attracted performers from all over Texas, including Black Mariah, Angi B. Lovely, members of Austin's Black Widow Burlesque and San Antonio's Stars and Garters, and Cardinal Cyn; ladies who have performed with or know of Agent Red and her accident, and are eager to help support her recovery. Doors open at 7:30, show begins at 8:00pm.
