Bill Schechner Presents at the JCC: Leah Garchik
March 17, 2011 Leah Garchik has been writing a daily column in the Chronicle since 1984. That's about 6000 columns... allowing for vacations, illness, and mental health days. She describes herself as a woman who has never owned a car with push-button windows, whose garden is overgrown, but since she is tall she doesn't need to prune it. Leah's not a Bay Area native. Far from it. Very far. Leah was born in Brooklyn, and tells questioners that she learned knitting and everything else she knows that is useful in Flatbush. In an on-stage conversation, Bill Schechner will ask her about her prize winning column (Chronicle readers named her Best Gossip), who whispers all that stuff in her ear, does she maybe keep an extra column in a desk drawer just in case the phone doesn't ring? You'll get to ask her things too, like her views about life, the newspaper business, and the future of civilization. Leah's smart and funny. It will be a good time!
