Embarr
Presented by the Carnegie Center & the Rivera Theatre:
Embarr is a 4 or 5 piece ensemble, featuring songs and ballads from the Celtic tradition, England, and Appalacia, sung in English and Irish Gaelic. Included in the mix are jigs, reels, hornpipes, and other traditional Celtic instrumental pieces. Embarr has been entertaining listeners in Michigan for 3 years, at various public & private venues, and at the annual Irish Fest in Kalamazoo.
Founding members Dan Bouwman (guitars, bodhran, vocals) and Ginny Gibbs (lead vocals), were joined by Veronica Cieri (fiddle) in 2009, and newest member Jim Clawsen (octave mandolin & cello) in 2011. We are sometimes pleased to welcome guest performers Aaron Miller (bodhran, hand percussion), and Richard Koontz (flute, whistles, bones). Embarr takes its name from a hero's magical horse from Irish mythology - and is also an Irish Gaelic word meaning "imagination." Tickets are only $5 and include complimentary hors d'oeuvres!
