Vallejo Symphony - Concert I
Thomas Heuser, conducting Inna Faliks, piano
Bedrich Smetana, Vltava (The Moldau) from Má Vlast Sergei Rachmaninoff, Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor Antonin Dvorak, Symphony No. 9 in E Minor, "New World"
"What a thrill to kick off this historic season of the Vallejo Symphony Orchestra! I am honored to bring the community together for a program of such passionate music, and so pleased to welcome pianist Inna Faliks, the newly-minted Professor of Piano at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, for a performance of Rachmaninoff's hopelessly romantic Second Piano Concerto. Added to the passion and romance, the concert also explores two "Wild and Serene" visions by two of the greatest Czech composers. Smetana's Vltava (The Moldau) evokes a raging river, shimmering with rivulets and cloaked in a golden melody; and Antonín Dvořák captures an equally vivid but more primitive American landscape in his New World Symphony. These familiar works are among my very favorites, it should be a wonderful evening of music." --Thomas Heuser
