Old Town Hall Lecture Series: May 19-David D. Hall of Harvard Divinity School
David D. Hall is the John A. Bartlett Professor of New England Church History at Harvard Divinity School. He is a cultural historian whose teaching interests span the entirety of American history. His work focuses on four areas: reconsidering the religious history of early New England from the standpoint of popular religion, including witch-hunting (Worlds of Wonder, Days of Judgment [1989]); bringing together the separate histories of reading, writing (authorship) and the book trades in a "history of the book" (Cultures of Print [1996]) The Colonial Book in the Atlantic World (2000), co-edited with Hugh Amory; rethinking religion and culture in terms of "practice" (Lived Religion in America: Toward a History of Practice [1997]); and the history of cultural criticism and the idea of culture in nineteenth-century America. Hall completed his academic work at Harvard and Yale Universities.
