Songwriter Circle: Cal Scott and Richard Moore with special guests Kate Power and Steve Einhorn
Monday, June 1, 7:00pm O'Connor's Vault 7850 S.W. Capitol Hwy
Cal Scott and Richard Moore welcome the godparents of the Portland folk scene to their bi-monthly circle at O'Connor's Vault in Multnomah Village, Monday, June 1 at 7:00pm. Kate Power and Steve Einhorn have held an honored place in the center of Portland's folk and singer-songwriter community, both as performers and until recently, long-time owners of Artichoke Music, a retail and performance center for acoustic instruments in southeast Portland.
Kate & Steve's music delivers the real deal in a push-button world. They have appeared as special guests on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion and won the Grand Prize from Music2Life in Kerrville, Texas "for songs that make a difference" with Kate's song "Travis John."
Twenty-five years of teaching people their first chords at Artichoke Music and a lifetime in concert as folksingers, Kate & Steve were inspired to create the Ukalaliens method for teaching people to play and sing and took it to the road in October 2009. Known for their Johnny Appleseed approach to sharing the joy of ukulele in America, the Ukalaliens are opening doors for thousands who never dreamed they could learn to play a musical instrument.
"So earthy and fresh is your music. I love it." - Lloyd "Tommy" Doss, Sons of the Pioneers
"Your music is wonderful! I love your harmonies. Keep on!" - Pete Seeger
"You guys are the best - the absolute best." - Dave Carter
The usual suspects bookending Kate and Steve will be Cal Scott, jack-of-many-genres who writes and performs withThe Trail Band and Kevin Burke, and the word-witty and tune-wise Richard Moore, likely to share a few more scenes from "Rain," his musical-in-the-works about Portland.
Discount advance tickets are $12 each from katestevepdx.brownpapertickets.com or $15 at the door. More information from Matt Miner at 503-484-8196 or mattminermusic@gmail.com.
