New American Mandolin Ensemble and Munier Mandolin Orchestra in Concert
Based in New England, NAME is comprised of some of the foremost mandolin and guitar virtuosos in the United States. NAME is dedicated to the performance of new works for mandolin ensemble, particularly works by American composers. NAME's founder and director is Mark Davis.
NAME will perform a set of contemporary works for mandolin ensemble. Featured pieces will include, among others, Chris Acquavella's "Yutuma," Owen Hartford's "Grooves #1 and #2," and Annette Kruisbrink's "Dreamtime."
Founded in 1957, PME's 20 members come from across the Delaware Valley. Historically, the orchestra's repertoire has drawn primarily upon traditional and classical Italian sources. In recent years, the orchestra has expanded its focus to include a broader cross-section of classical and world music traditions.
Munier will perform a set including works by George Gershwin, Jay Ungar, and Karl Jenkins.
NAME and Munier will join together to perform several works, including Victor Kioulaphides' mandolin concerto "Concerto de Camera," featuring NAME mandolinist David Miller.
