Mark Izu Quartet
Izu music is an amalgam of ancient Asian traditions fired in jazz. Joyfully he opens the Rhythmix World Music Series. - a brand new performance space and a brand new group featuring premiere saxophonist Richard Howell, koto extraordinaire Shoko Hikage, and the thunder drums of Janet Koike, with special guest performance artist Brenda Wong Aoki.
Says Izu, âPeople, according to Japanese mythology, were created to keep the light on the earth. The Sun Goddessâs little brother teased her so badly, she shut herself in a cave. All was darkness. So the gods created people to tell stories dance, play music. The Sun Goddess got curious and came back. Thatâs our role â to keep the light on the earth. â
