See the Future! Saturday Night Sampler Series
Tonight we present two duos that are paving the way toward a bright future for folk music. Our ticket price is underwritten by a grant by from the New York State Council on the Arts, enabling us to offer you an amazing bargain for an intimate night of music worthy of the finest stages anywhere. Tonight is the night to discover a new favorite! Hailing from Toronto, Madison Violet is a rising star in the international folk scene. In the past year they were Juno nominees and won Grand Prize in the folk category of the John Lennon Songwriting contest. Both hailing from Scottish small towns in Canada, they channels their parent's vintage record collection comprised of the likes of Neil Young and Dolly Parton. After ten years of performing together, Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac (sister of Ashley MacIsaac) have come into a city-folk sound of their own that is full of catchy, heart-melting, gut-wrenching songs. Sharing the bill is NYC duo Left on Red, featuring two young women with a mission to communicate through fun and socially relevant music and lyrics. Raised in Mexico and well-traveled, Liah Alonso's multi-language background is a sharp contrast to Kelly Halloran's childhood in New England where she studied violin under the Suzuki method. Everything about them radiates joie de vivre and authenticity, and their sophisticated arrangements have a captivating chemistry and tightness. "Why these hippy-veggie-old-time-y blissful angels of harmony are not the most popular band in the world, I have no idea . . . " -Brian Cogan - Author of "The Encyclopedia of Punk" - Top Ten Shows of 2009
