Mike Agranoff
It may not be a federal holiday, but April Fools Day is worthy of most earnest celebration, and nobody approaches fun more earnestly than Mike Agranoff! Adept on concertina and piano, Mike's prime instrument is the guitar, upon which he shines with intricate fingerstyle arrangements of anything from Tin Pan Alley tunes of the '20s to fiddle tunes to his own music. A typical performance might include an uproariously funny topical tune, followed by a Scott Joplin piano rag, an acapella Irish patter song sung to the melody of a mile-a-minute concertina accompaniment, a rivetting recitation in the style of Robert Service, and some of the most delightfully horrible parodies in the English speaking world. Whatever else he does, Mike puts a lie to the notion that folk music is boring.
