New American Mandolin Ensemble and Philadelphia Mandolin Ensemble in Concert
Based in New England, NAME is comprised of some of the foremost mandolin and guitar virtuosos in the United States. NAME is dedicated to the performance of new works for mandolin ensemble, particularly works by American composers. NAME's founder and director is Mark Davis.
Founded in 2006 by Joe Todaro, PME's members come from across the Delaware Valley. The ensemble draws inspiration from a wide variety of classical, folk, and world music traditions. Much of the PME's repertoire is arranged or composed specifically for the ensemble by PME members.
NAME will perform a set of contemporary works for mandolin ensemble. Featured pieces will include, among others, Chris Acquavella's "Yutuma," Owen Hartford's "Urban Sketches," and Mark Davis' "The Cat in Springtime."
PME will perform a set featuring works by Astor Piazzolla,Jay Ungar,PME member Joe Kasinskas, and others.Vocalist Jessica Satryan will join the ensemble for several works, including a reworking of Anna Kendrick's popular hit "Cups(When I'm Gone)."
NAME and PME will join together to perform several works, including the American premier of Victor Kioulaphides' mandolin concerto "Concerto de Camera," featuring NAME mandolinist David Miller.
