Scott Ainslie & Paul Asbell
Vermont's green hills and laidback lifestyle drew two of America's finest fingerstyle blues guitarists to make their home there. Tonight we bring them across state lines to Caffè Lena to share a night of American roots classics and fine new songs. Scott Ainslie takes a uniquely soulful and scholarly approach to the blues, speaking and playing with compelling passion and authority. For the better part of two decades he has immersed himself in the music of Robert Johnson, recording three solo CDs and writing the bestselling Robert Johnson/At the Crossroads transcriptions. In addition to his mastery of blues classics, Ainslie is a compelling songwriter whose work addresses themes of social justice, love and redemption. Once described as an "underground legend," and "well-kept secret," Paul is now a cat that's out of the bag! He's a personable, engaging steel string wonder orignally from Chicago's South Side who makes his beautiful instrumental versions of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" and "Stardust" seem right at home in a set that focuses on unique arrangements of blues and jazz standards, old-time country songs and other American roots classics. His playing has been praised far and wide by the likes of David Bromberg, Vintage Guitar Magazine, and he was featured in Acoustic Guitar magazine in April 2010.
