Event
Hand of God Winery presents the Foot of God, a celebration of the Lionel Messi documentary at SIFF.
Argentina loves its culture: Tango, Music, Dance, Movies, Theater and of course FOOTBALL! So when we heard that the Seattle International Film Festival (SIFF.NET) was featuring the documentary of Messi, we just knew we had to have a party (or There are two showings of Messi: on Thursday, May 21st (Harvard Exit) and Sunday, May 24th (SIFF Cinema Egyptian). We are doing events for both films. 3!) to celebrate the greatest football player in the world!
The three events are (NOTE: use the pull down menu above under DATE to find each event):
1. A pre movie wine tasting paired with empanadas (May 21st, 5:30 pm, movie starts at 7pm at Harvard Exit)
2. A post movie debrief late night dessert, Dulce de Leche paired with Wine (May 21st at 9PM)
3. A full Argentine Asado inspired dinner after the movie on May 24th at 6:30pm. Traditional Argentine food, known as Criolla tends to consist of large grills and barbecues called 'asados' or 'parillas' on which meat (primarily beef), and chorizo are flung.
We are lucky to have a native Argentine friend (Rodrigo Cappagli ) who will be cooking up this feast. We will start with homemade empanadas (yummy pastries stuffed with anything from minced meat to chicken to cheese and ham)
The main course will consist of Grilled skirt steak Gaucho Style with chimichurri sauce, and Grilled Chorizo, this type is by far the most popular sausage grilled on a parrilla.
We will, of course, finish with Dulce de Leche!
And of course, all of it will be paired with our award-winning Hand of God wines!
NOTE: When you click on the link, you must use the pulldown menu to select which event(s) you want to attend. All three are there.
The suggested price for this dinner is $99.00 (which is inclusive of tips and taxes). This is most definitely a first-come, first served deal and will not be duplicated again. More information on Messi, the movie:
Messi Leo Messi is considered today's greatest soccer player, but at age 11 he ran the risk of his career ending before it started. With informal interviews, re-enactments, and spectacular footage of Messi's legendary exploits, this film tells the incredible, true story of his rise to glory. (d: Álex de la Iglesia c: Maradona, César Luis Menotti, Jorge Valdano, Gerard Piqué, Spain 2014, 90 min)
Today he is considered the greatest soccer player in the world, but Lionel Messi grew up with a serious condition that, left untreated, would have stunted his growth and pre-empted his career. This film traces his life back to his childhood in Rosario, Argentina and his exploits with the legendary local youth team, through his diagnosis with growth hormone deficiency and the far-sighted decision by Barcelona F.C. to underwrite the cost of his treatment. That decision had an incredible payoff, giving Barcelona the greatest player in the team's history. Award-winning director Alex de la Iglesia (EL DIA DE LA BESTIA, CRIMEN FERPECTO) incorporates plenty of footage of Messi's spectacular ability throughout his career to dribble past opponents as if the ball were glued to his foot, and to find the net with power and clinical precision. The archival footage is artfully interwoven with re-enactments of key moments in Messi's life and informal conversations with Messi's friends and colleagues. It's a rousing and inspiring story that will appeal to soccer lovers and skeptics alike.
