* Understand the historical context of Black and Native mothering in the United States. * Learn the impact of inequities on maternal mental health * Gain strategies to provide culturally respectful, culturally sensitive and culturally humble care. * Explore the role of breastfeeding and birth in maternal mood disorders * Discuss and explore community resources available in the King and Pierce County
Trainers Camie Goldhammer, LICSW Sherry L. Payne MSN RN CNE IBCLC Sherry is a registered nurse, certified nurse educator, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and midwifery student. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Nursing Education at Walton University and is the Executive Director of Uzazi Village, a nonprofit she founded dedicated to decreasing perinatal health inequities in the African-American community. She works collaboratively in her community to educate, inform, advocate, facilitate and inspire positive change within the healthcare establishment to make racially-based disparities a thing of the past. She resides in Overland Park KS with her husband and nine children.
