A Sublime Evening with Poets Ellen Bass and Chana Bloch
Two award-winning California Jewish poets read from their work. Ellen Bass has published five books of poetry, most recently "Like a Beggar" in 2014. Her previous books include "The Human Line," named a Notable Book by the San Francisco Chronicle, and "Mules of Love," which won the Lambda Literary Award. Her poems have appeared in hundreds of publications, including The New Yorker. She teaches in the MFA program at Pacific University. Chana Bloch has written books of poetry, translation and scholarship and is professor emerita of English at Mills College, where directed the Creative Writing Program. She served as the first poetry editor of the online women's journal www.persimmontree.org. She has published five poetry collections, including "Swimming in the Rain: New and Selected Poems, 1980-2015." She has received the 2012 Meringoff Poetry Award, fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and National Endowment for the Humanities and two Pushcart Prizes.
