Your Mother Dances is Back in Black (and purple)! Get ready for an evening of original work by Founder and Artistic Director, Elizabeth Johnson and Guest Artist, Dawn Springer. Expect to "Feel Like It" as the audacious YMD dancers crack the "fourth wall" with a little something on their minds and phone cameras in hands (don't worry, we'll behave--mostly).

YMD is proud to present our special guest Dawn Springer in her 2006 solo "A Token of One's Affection." Merging beautifully with this program's bent for '70s musical influences, this dance set to two versions of "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" employs gesture and full-bodied improvisation to explore nostalgia and the present tense.

Also originally premiered in 2006, Johnson's "My Mother Never Really Liked Purple Anyway...," is an autobiographical group romp through all the shades of the "royal" color. The ever-present specter of Petipa's Sugar Plum Fairy guides the choreographic invention as Johnson ruminates on dashed hopes, "poems pertaining to purple," and the fashion sacrifices her mother made to fuel her daughter's childhood dream of being a classical ballerina.

Finally, Johnson's most recent work, "Back in Black," set to iconic AC/DC songs, plays between a rock 'n' roll full throttle physicality and the naughty, thinly metaphorical and testosterone inflated lyrics of a generation. As flashy as a Solid Gold moment and as explosive at TNT, we'll Shake You All Night Long with our Dirty Deeds!

**Associated Special Event:
On Saturday, May 9th, YMD invites dance students ages 13 and above to join us for a special class and repertory workshop. Along with Artistic Director, Elizabeth Johnson and company dancers, students will warm up and learn repertory, eat a catered lunch and see the show. Price for the entire event (including lunch) is $35. Class and repertory 2-3:15 PM in Mitchell Hall 395, lunch served immediately following, show at 4 PM. If you are student attending this event, please purchase this event only. Parents and friends can purchase individual tickets separately.
