PILOT: Choreographers Taking Flight
M2DT is excited to present the following choreographers and their dancers: Rebecca DeButts - Rebecca DeButts has a background in modern dance and classical ballet. She is an alumnus of The Booker T. Washington HSPVA Dance Department and is a former member of Repertory Dance Company II. Rebecca has had the pleasure to work with artists such as Peter Chu, Christopher Vo, Kanji Segawa, Robert Battle and members of Momix and Doug Varone and Dancers. Rebecca is currently a sophomore Arts and Performance major at the University of Texas at Dallas. Physical Dyslexia began as a movement experiment that developed into a statement about self-loathing and self-mutilation.
Kayla Jenkins - Kayla Jenkins has been a company member of Perpetual Motion Modern Dance Oklahoma since 2007. She received her BFA in Dance Performance from the University of Central Oklahoma and is a former member of the Kaleidoscope Dance Co. In 2008, Kayla moved to New York City where she studied modern and jazz dance, performed with Danzare Modern Dance Co., produced her own choreography, and taught Pilates at Sal Anthony's Movement Salon. She was the resident dance artist this year for "Dancewise" at Tulakes Elementary School integrating dance and art into Putnam City Schools. She currently teaches at Victory Dance. Brainstorm explores the distance between perception and reality in a fit of mental confusion and/or excitement. Amy Querin - Amy Querin, MFA moved to CA in 2006 after early success in dance as a performer, choreographer, scholar and educator. She founded Fresno's resident professional modern dance company, fresNO dance COllective (locally nicknamed NOCO) in early 2010. Now at the end of their first year, NOCO celebrates the completion of 37 local and national performances and an ongoing community outreach presence. Amy's recent focus has been traveling nationally for residencies and freelance choreography projects; she completed four national choreography commissions in 2010. In addition to directing NOCO and teaching at Fresno City College's Theatre and Dance Department, she is currently a private and group Pilates Trainer. Fits is an exploration of the effortful way we try and resist to fit together, both physically and emotionally.
Jessica Thomas - Jessica Thomas graduated from the University of North Texas with a BFA in Dance Performance. She has studied and performed Jose Limón's technique in intensive workshops at California State University, Fullerton, working with Brenna Monroe-Cook and Risa Steinberg. Jessica currently dances with Contemporary Dance/Fort Worth and Satellite Dance and teaches for The Colony Dance Studio and the Fort Worth Academy of Fine Arts. U.Knows. U a continued sense of knowingness. delving deeper deeper a self peeling of layers pure. Openness. in All Ways. Truth.
Jackie Beth Shilcutt - Jackie Beth Shilcutt, a dance graduate of the University of North Texas, currently teaches dance at Abilene Christian University and works as a personal trainer and yoga instructor with EverFIT Outdoor Fitness Company. Jackie Beth recently returned to the States after studying capoeira in Brazil. Recent projects include creating and performing Tallest of the Smalls (an interactive stilt performance), choreographing and orchestrating a flash mob in Itu, Brazil, presenting at Texas Nonprofit Theatres Youth Conference, and sharing dance with the children from the favelas of Indiatuba, Brazil, at the Deco20 Institute.

Holly Arnold - Holly Arnold is in her fifth season with Phase 2 Dance Ensemble. She earned her Associate Degree in Fine Arts from Tarrant County College where she toured and presented her choreography with the Mosaic Dance Company. She continues to work towards her Bachelors of Science in Child Development with a focus in Occupational Therapy. She has studied with Lacreacia Inez Sanders, Amy Sleigh, Linda Quinn, Melissa Autry, Lisa Nicks, Carisa Armstrong, and Molly Snell-Witt. Holly has also taken master classes at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City with artist Frank Hatchett and the NYC Rockettes.
Straws, Strings, and Suction Cups involves aimlessly endless circles, falling down again lost in thought, and the thought of a better direction asking "Will I ever catch a break?"
Lacie Minyard - Living Motion Dance Company is a project developed by Lacie Minyard in her undergraduate Career at Texas Woman's University. Living Motion Dance Company aims to serve the community and invigorate audiences with its musically inspired works of emotionally vulnerable dancing. The repertoire explores expressions ranging from the sad, broken, bleak, and beautiful to the light-hearted, youthful, and worry free. Living Motion's mission is to inspire people of all ages to participate in the arts. As I Crumble is an emotional quintet that takes the audience on a tour of the bleak and broken. This musically inspired work highlights the dancers while establishing relationships that bring the piece full circle.
Kyla Olson - Kyla Olson is on faculty in the Dance Department at Texas Tech University and is the Executive Director, as well as a company member, of Flatlands Dance Theater. She earned an MFA in Dance from Sam Houston State University and a BFA from West Texas A&M University. Dissections, a work set to the dark score of composer Henryk Górecki, is an interpretation of Pablo Picasso's Girl before a Mirror.
