Visionary Viewings Film Series: Not My Life with guest speaker Robert Beiser from Seattle Against Slavery
Not My Life
This film is the first film to depict the cruel and dehumanizing practices of human trafficking and modern slavery on a global scale.
Filmed on five continents, in a dozen countries, Not My Life takes viewers into a world where millions of children are exploited, every day, through an astonishing array of practices including forced labor, domestic servitude, begging, sex tourism, sexual violence, and child soldiering.
Robert Beiser is the Executive Director of Seattle Against Slavery (SAS). After several years at Microsoft, he left the tech world to work in the non-profit sector as a social justice advocate. Robert began working on the issue of human trafficking in 2007. His role with SAS began in 2010 as the Public Awareness Campaigns Manager, and he has been executive director since 2012. Robert holds a Master's of Public Affairs from UW and is a member of the Washington Statewide Coordinating Committee on Trafficking.
Seattle Against Slavery (SAS) is a grassroots coalition working to make a slave-free world, one city at a time. Uniting community-based activists, local and national NGOs, government agencies, and other coalitions, SAS seeks to raise human trafficking awareness and mobilize the public to better advocate for victims, enhance survivor care, promote legislation to combat human trafficking, and help service providers build capacity.
