Event
Lovers + Liberators
Organized by the directors of smash hit Bold Native, Lovers + Liberators is a special fundraising event for the Red Vic that brings together three films with the themes of liberation and domestic "terrorism".
4:00: All Power To The People (US 1996) is an epic documentary about the Black Panther Party and Cointelpro that the press has called a "potent indictment."
7:00: Bold Native, (Dirs. Denis Henry Hennelly, Casey Suchan, US 2010) returns after its sold-out premiere at the Red Vic in November! A daring piece of guerrilla filmmaking, Bold Native addresses domestic "terrorism" and animal liberation.
9:00: The Spook Who Sat by the Door (Ivan Dixon, US 1973) was removed from theaters soon after its release due to the politically controversial message. The story takes place in the early 70's in Chicago, where the CIA has trained the first African-American to show their supposed commitment to integration and progress. However, their subject turns out to be a black nationalist who goes on to train his own group of "Freedom Fighters" to engage in guerrilla warfare.
Ticket prices: $9 one admission to one film $15 one admission to two films $20 one admission to all 3 films
