Sybarite5 Invades Concord MA
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CONCORD NATIVE RETURNS TO PERFORM WITH ACCLAIMED STRING QUINTET March 19th 2011, 7:30pm
Following sold out concerts at Lincoln Center and the Library of Congress, Concord native Sarah Whitney returns to her hometown with her New York-based string quintet, SYBARITE5 and violin in tow on March 19th 2011. The group will present their unique program, THE SHUFFLE EFFECT, as part of the First Parish Concert Series, sponsored by First Parish in Concord's Music Events Committee, which will mark the ensemble's first Boston-area appearance.
Whitney, an alumna of Concord-Carlisle High School, studied violin in the preparatory divisions of the New England Conservatory and was concertmaster of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra, before continuing her musical studies at the University of Michigan, the Cleveland Institute of Music and ultimately joining up with Sybarite5 while at the Aspen Music Festival and School. Her parents Alan and Lois Whitney still live in Concord, and she has returned frequently to give well attended solo recitals in the area.
"SYBARITE5 is a New Yorkbased group of gifted young string musicians who have gained a reputation for juxtaposing the likes of Stravinsky with Radiohead, or Dvorák with Led Zeppelin. But that doesn't even begin to describe the range of their eclecticism or the depth of their repertoire." - Greg Cahill, Strings Magazine
Comprised of Sami Merdinian and Sarah Whitney, violins; Angela Pickett, viola; Laura Metcalf, cello; and Louis Levitt, bass, SYBARITE5 has taken audiences around the US by storm. From Radiohead to Mozart, this group of talented, diverse musicians has changed the perception of chamber music performance. From the moment that their bows hit the strings, the audience is taken on a wild ride that engages the senses and redefines the rules. SYBARITE5.ORG
ABOUT THE SHUFFLE EFFECT: The Shuffle Effect sets a new standard in audience experience. The traditional set program list is replaced with an iPod containing the group's repertoire. The program for the concert is determined Live from the stage, as the players press shuffle on the iPod and play whatever piece shows up on the screen. Audiences must be prepared for anything - from Radiohead to Mozart, The Shuffle Effect allows the musicians to showcase their skill, innovation and vibrancy. This group of talented young musicians is changing the face of classical music and redefining how chamber music is performed and enjoyed.
