Light Waves & Their Uses
Inspired by the life of physicist Albert Michelson, New Beast Theatre Works' second semi-opera explores one man's passionate devotion to discovery, and the neglect and mental illness caused by his scientific obsessions. "Light Waves & Their Uses" harnesses drama, dance, music and song into a cohesive experimental story of a scientist, his family, and his madness.
New Beast has developed an original, fictional story of a devoted scientist and endearingly absent-minded family man. Our Michelson derives immense joy from both precisely engineered machinery and the faces his daughter makes while reading. But as his scientific imaginings overtake him, his wife and daughters are increasingly disturbed by his neglect and erratic behavior, and colleagues turn resentful of his tyranny. "Light Waves & Their Uses" is the story of a man passionately devoted to a beautiful pursuit, and the pain this devotion causes those he loves.
