JULES FEIFFER, An Evening With
Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7:30pm Film, Discussion w/Q&A, Reception, Book Signing Members $20 / Public $30
The Cinema Arts Centre is delighted to present an evening with one of the defining artists of our era. Cartoonist, playwright, screenwriter, children's book author & illustrator Jules Feiffer has had a remarkable creative career turning contemporary urban anxiety into witty and revealing commentary for over fifty years. From his inimitable Village Voice editorial cartoons to his plays and screenplays, including Little Murders and Carnal Knowledge, Feiffer's satirical outlook has helped define us politically, sexually and socially. The first cartoonist commissioned by The New York Times to create comic strips for their Op-Ed page, Feiffer has been honored with the Pulitzer Prize for his cartoons, an Obie for his plays, an Academy Award for his animated film Munro, and Lifetime Achievement Awards from the Writers Guild of America and the National Cartoonists society. Feiffer will sign copies of his dazzling new memoir, Backing into Forward - a witty, illustrated rendition of his life, from his childhood as a wimpy kid in the Bronx to his legendary career in the arts.
LITTLE MURDERS Starring Elliot Gould, Donald Sutherland, Alan Arkin Directed by Alan Arkin
Determinedly sunny Marcia Rodd rescues ultra-passive photographer Elliott Gould from muggers and is left to get beaten up herself; her dad Vincent Gardenia gets through the day in planned segments; judge Lou Jacobi lectures on religion from the bench; and Donald Sutherland's minister finds every crime "a part of life," until ultimately it's sniper-vs.-sniper time. Screenplay by Jules Feiffer, based on his play, with director Arkin cameoing as the Inspector. USA, 1971, 110 min.
