"Singing Together" with Mark Growden
Explore the interplay of your embodied voice with others in this three night workshop with singer and multi-instrumentalist Mark Growden. Through play, vocal exercises and songs from a variety of traditions and cultures, the two-hour sessions will join a wide range of disparate voices in wholly transcendent singing experiences.
Singing Together emphasizes the release of fear, the expansion of the heart and the liberation that singing brings.
No prior musical or singing experience required.
As a special bonus in conjunction with Mark's CD Release concerts at the Brava Theater on February 18th & 19th, singers from the Singing Together workshop will have the option of joining Mark on stage at the shows to perform a song from the workshop. Singers will also receive a discount code to invite friends and family to be part of the audience for these special performances.
Three nights: February 8, 13, & 15 7:30pm to 9:30pm $75 - $125 sliding scale for the series.
Mark Growden is a singer, composer, writer, performer, and music educator based in San Francisco, CA. He was nominated for "Best Americana Artist" twice by the San Francisco Weekly Music Awards. He is known for his passionate performances, his soulful voice, and his thoughtful and poetic lyrics. He accompanies himself with saxophone, accordion, banjo, sruti box, and even plays the bicycle handlebars. Recorded live in the studio, his upcoming album Lose me in the Sand is his second place-based album with Porto Franco Records engineered by Oz Fritz (whose resume includes Tom Waits and Caetano Valoso). It follows on the heels of his accordion-driven critically acclaimed Americana-noir masterpiece Saint Judas recorded in Oakland. The new album is crafted around the banjo, chosen by Growden for its timbre and its place in the history of American folk music. Lose Me in the Sand is a tribute to roughshod beginnings of American music, the spirit of resilience and fortitude that music represents, and to Growden's own rural mountain roots in Pinetown, a small, depression-stricken California logging town.
