ASWA: Money for Nothing and the Advice is Free
Money for Nothing and the Advice is Free: Tips to Investing in Private Companies"

Presented by Mr. Craig McCrohon

With traditional bank loans drying up, smaller companies must search for capital from non-traditional sources.  These sources often include wealthy individuals or other companies.  Mr. McCrohon will present results from his firm's survey of Private Equity and Venture Fund investors in the Chicago area, including industries of focus, size of deals and other investment elements. The presentation will also cover ways that investors can protect their investment, fairly influence the company based on the funds provided, monitor the investment, and get their money back - with interest.  The presentation will also discuss how companies receiving investment can protect control, and ensure that they have not accidentally sold their company through a Trojan horse financing.

Craig McCrohon specializes in securities and mergers and acquisitions law. He advises companies and boards of directors regarding corporate transactions, director and officer liability, corporate finance and regulatory matters. His work has included organizing bank holding companies, negotiating venture capital investments, drafting securities offerings, and negotiating joint ventures in Europe and Asia.

Craig McCrohon is a graduate of Harvard University and received his JD/MBA degrees from the Wharton School of Business and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.  As a graduate student, he studied law and economics at the London School of Economics. Prior to entering private practice in Chicago, he worked with the legal staff of the United States Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
