We feel a bit strange writing an introduction to Josh Wink because, well, you all know who Wink is, right? He's one of the most legendary figures in dance music, with a discography that is several pages long. In 1994, he founded his own record label, Ovum, which quickly gained worldwide recognition and remains a highly respected imprint to this day. While Josh has excelled in the mainstream with his many huge international hit singles and remixes for artists like Depeche Mode and Sting, he has always stayed true to his underground roots, releasing an endless stream of cutting edge music and playing uncompromising sets at the world's best parties. Josh hasn't joined us at The Bunker since 2007, and we are thrilled to present an extended six hour set where he will really be able to stretch his legs and show you what he is capable of behind the decks, which is a LOT.
There aren't many people we'd trust with the job of opening for Josh Wink. Playing the opening set is a lost artform, and most DJs will just bang it out no matter where you put them in the line up. Our good friends Ezekiel Honig and David Last have been coming to The Bunker since we started in subTonic, and both have performed for us many times. They are promising a nice warm opening set that leaves Wink with the perfect starting point to take you on a long journey. David has released an amazing album on The Agriculture, recently performed at Unsound Festival New York and Mutek as Konque, and is generally one of the most creative people we know and always has something interesting up his sleeve. Ezekiel Honig is the man behind both the Microcosm and Anticipate labels, and toured the world behind the release of five albums that exist in his very unique and beautiful sound world. Hearing these two guys perform together is a rare treat.
Newworldaquarium is the alter ego of Amsterdam based Jochem Peteri, named after a New York aquarium supply store. Peteri has released only a handful of records over the last sixteen years under various monikers: Newworldromantic, Ross 154, and 154. With tracks licensed to Carl Craig and classic releases on Delsin and Peacefrog, Peteri has remained mysteriously under the radar. In late 2001, Peteri set up his own label, NWAQ, to release his material. His sophomore album, "The Dead Bears" arrived in early 2008, fifteen years after his debut on Dutch techno imprint Eevo-Lute Muzique. Newworldaquarium rarely performs in public, so we really didn't know what to expect from his U.S. debut at Unsound Festival New York at The Bunker last February. NWAQ delivered with a set that quickly made him a festival highlight to many in attendance, and became one of our most popular editions of The Bunker Podcast.
One of the fresher artists who has showed up in our record crates again and again in the past couple years is Delta Funktionen. When we decided to do a Delsin night, Delta Funktionen was right at the top of our list of artists we want to include. Delta Funktionen is a young guy and a new artist, but something tells us that we'll be hearing a lot of interesting things from him in the future. Tonight he will be playing a four hour opening set. Listening to the mnml.ssgs podcast below, which is a live recording of a three set of SF opening for Jeff Mills in the Netherlands, will give you some idea of what you're in for.
Conforce was introduced to electronic music by his father at a very young age and has quickly matured into one of the most interesting and talented producers we've heard. His talents have been recognized by many well known labels such as Meanwhile, Rush Hour, Curle, and of course Delsin. His sound has heavy shades of classic deep Detroit electro and techno, but he puts his own spin on things and has a very recognizable sound. The FACT mix (a live set of all his own tracks) below is a fantastic introduction to his sound.
