Ben Adams, Jeff Denson, Ziv Ravitz Trio - Beautifully Flowing Vibes Trio
Ben Adams, Jeff Denson and Ziv Ravitz met at Berklee School of Music and they have been making fascinating jazz, separately and together, ever since, and getting notice for it across the U.S and Europe. Adams is an exceptional young talent on the vibraphones. With great vibes players so few and far between, itâs always exciting to discover a musician making fresh, wonderful music on that beguiling instrument.
âThe cool intelligence of his improvising shows why Adams is a class act who helps to extend the mainstream lineage of Red Norvo-Lionel Hampton-Milt Jackson-Bobby Hutcherson-Gary Burton (to name but five).â - David Lewis, Cadence Magazine
Bassist Jeff Denson and Israeli drummer Ziv Ravitz make up two thirds of the trio Minsarah, a group that has been causing a sensation on two continents.
Listening to [Minsarahâs] CD you will hear breathtaking technique, perfect timing, and great melodic richness.â -- Hans-Jurgen von Osterhausen, Jazz Podium Magazine
These three colleagues and friends recorded together on Adamsâ second CD, Music For Six. Upon hearing that release, famed jazz writer Bob Blumenthal wrote to Adams, âAs you know, I was impressed with your first CD, The Figured Wheel, which was a quartet recording; but that admirable effort hardly prepared me for the precise execution and original concept of Music for Six. . . . There is a consistency to both the writing and the performance that create a unified work, something all too rare among jazz bands that assemble an album's worth of music."
Adamsâ most recent CD, Old Thoughts for a New Day, has received rave reviews, as well.
âAs the title of this colorful, multi-mood jazz date promises,â writes Jonathan Widran of All Music Guide, âthe innovative vibist is entering a new realm in which he's the main composer but the glorious ghosts of his inspirations are clear for all to hear. The most fascinating aspect of the set is the many ways Adams uses his shimmering vibes . . . .â
Be sure to catch Adams, Denson and Ravitz, a trio of explosive, innovative talent, as they reunite for a very special weekend of great music at Jazz at Pearlâs.
Ben Adams, originally from the Midwest, began his musical life as a drummer but soon switched to the vibraphone. In the mid-90s, he studied at the Berklee School of Music with Dave Samuels, Dave Friedman and Victor Mendoza. On his first album, The Figured Wheel, Adams featured both standards and originals. On his second effort, Music For Six, he explored the work of modern classical composer Todd Brindley Herschberger. On his latest work, Old Thoughts for a New Day, Adams stepped front and center to illuminate his own prowess as a composer of fascinating and moving material.
Bassist Jeff Denson, a native of the Washington, D.C. Area, has been actively performing since 1996. He has performed with musical stars including Gilbert Castellanos, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, Art Lande and Lee Konitz. In 1999, Denson received a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music, and in 2002 received the Berklee Outstanding Performer Award. In 2000, together with Israeli drummer, Ziv Ravitz and German pianist, Florian Weber, Denson formed the international trio, Minsarah. Since that time the group has been performing their unique music in clubs and festivals to enraptured audiences in both the U.S. and Europe.
Drummer Ziv Ravitz was born in Beer-Sheva, Israel, to a family of musicians. When he was nine years old he started focusing on drums and by the age of 13 heâd begun his professional career. In 1999. Ravitz became the house drummer at the Camelot Jazz Club in Tel Aviv, working with traveling jazz stars from Europe and the U.S. Ravitz moved to the US in the summer of 2000 to attend Berklee School of Music and expand his musical horizons. Heâs since played with stars like Joe Lovano, Lee Konitz, Mick Goodrick, Ben Monder and Avishai Cohen. Heâs toured across Europe with a wide variety of ensembles, ranging from the exciting liquid jazz of Minsarah, to the classical excellence of the Iasi Romanian Philharmonic Orchestra.
