Driving Miss Daisy
Issues of race relations and unconditional friendship imbue this touching and funny Dramatic License Productions' play by Alfred Uhry, directed by Washington University Theatre's Annamaria Pileggi, which centers on the 25-year relationship between Daisy Werthen, an elderly Southern Jewish woman and her African-American chauffer, Hoke Colburn. Uhry received the 1988 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for the play, which was later made into a popular film starring Morgan Freeman and Jessica Tandy. It is currently running on Broadway starring James Earl Jones and Vanessa Redgrave. Dramatic License Productions' Driving Miss Daisy features St. Louis professional actors, Sally Eaton as "Daisy", B Weller as "Boolie", and the incomparable Dennis Lebby* as "Hoke".
