FELA! is the true story of the legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, whose soulful Afrobeat rhythms ignited a generation.

The theatrical production of FELA! was filmed live from the National's Olivier Theatre in London and will be screened Saturday, Feb. 5th, 7 pm at the Tobias Theater at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

Inspired by his mother, a civil rights champion, Fela Kuti (1938-1997) defied a corrupt and oppressive military government and devoted his life and music to the struggle for freedom and human dignity.

FELA! is a triumphant tale of courage, passion and love, featuring Fela Kuti's captivating music and the visionary direction and choreography of Tony-Award winner Bill T. Jones.

FELA! is produced in association with Shawn 'Jay-Z' Carter, Will & Jada Pinkett Smith and is a provocative and wholly unique hybrid of dance, theatre and music, exploring the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti.

Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), FELA! reveals Kuti's controversial life as an artist and political activist.  Featuring many of Fela Kuti's most captivating songs and Bill T Jones's visionary staging, this original new creation has come via Broadway to the National Theatre. In New York it was the winner of three 2010 Tony Awards including Best Choreography.

Sahr Ngaujah (who won an Obie Award for his performance as Fela Kuti) leads the cast for the London production, which also includes Paulette Ivory and Melanie Marshall.

Enjoy the production in high-def right here in Indianapolis.
