UW Tango Club is thrilled to bring Momo Smitt to Seattle! Momo will not only be providing his sick beats, his unique tango raps, but also offering Seattle Tango dancers two amazing workshops.
*** About Momo ***
Over the past five plus years Momo has been traveling nonstop in a sublime and dedicated pursuit of tango dancing, teaching, performing, DJing, and rapping at tango events and festivals, and in local communities across the United States and Canada. Known far and wide for his mesmerizing embrace and astounding musicality, Momo shares his compelling approach to tango in workshops revolving around a slower, simpler dance, where the music and the partnership not the "steps" are the primary focus. In addition to comfortable and connected social dancing, Momo puts a special emphasis on community building. He organizes tango festivals in both Portland and Ashland, Oregon.
*** Schedule ***
12:00-1:30pm Making a choice - letting the music move you. This workshop will focus on conscious decision making of when and how we step. Exercises and concepts designed to help get us out of our habitual patterns, timings and vocabulary. In addition we will explore ways that followers can influence the way the music is expressed and interpreted.
1:45-3:15pm Always in flux - introducing and fine tuning the Rolling embrace. Close embrace movements that require a bit more space can often result in disconnect. In this workshop we will explore ways to accommodate vocabulary as well as hight and size discrepancies all without compromising the connection of close Embrace.
