JODY ELLEN + MARQUIS OF VAUDEVILLE
JODY ELLEN
The 'road less traveled' could describe Singer/Songwriter Jody Ellen's journey from her first steps with the family's Gospel / Bluegrass band, through the dizzying curves of Steampunk, heading full speed into world of Pop/Alt-Rock music. This is a journey she calls "Random Awesomeness," something she delivers each time she's on stage performing for an audience.
The passion and energy she brings is undeniable. With an astounding vocal range, ear-catching Pop melodies, tight harmonies and a spunky personality, the Seattle-based performer is building serious momentum in the Seattle music scene.
Many of her fans may know Jody from her work with the seminal Steampunk band Abney Park, where she spent five years as the female vocalist, prompting one reviewer to remark "Her voice is always soulful, strong and a perfect match with the melody and arrangements, proving that she is easily one of the most skilled and talented women in steampunk music today" after the release of her first solo album "Skyscrapers & Helicopters."
Jody left Abney Park in 2014 to pursue a full-time solo career and to focus on her follow-up album "Bookends Fall." This 11-song album consisting of a solid mix of gorgeous contemporary ballads, mixed with hard hitting Melodic/Alternative Rock songs and a splash of Electronic Dance tracks, and was recorded in part recorded with MXPX's lead singer Mike Herrera at his Monkey Trench Studio in Bremerton, WA.
Most people compare Jody's voice to that of Amy lee, Hayley Williams, or Christina Perri, but the only way audiences have been able to describe Jody Ellen onstage, is with the phrase "Random Awesomeness." With Jody on stage, you never know what new song or style she is going to pull out at the last second!
With the release of "Bookends Fall," Jody plans to extensively tour the West Coast in 2015. She is supported by her husband and lead guitarist Chris Akerman, and the rest of her band, comprised of two ex-Abney Park members: Nathaniel Johnstone (guitar) and Jean-Paul Mayden (bass), plus her high-school song writing partner and friend Erica Nagao (backup vocals) and Jim Anderberg on drums.
MARQUIS OF VAUDEVILLE
Having the ambitious wish to propel the entire world into a melodic vortex, Marquis of Vaudeville emits an extraordinary sound that spirals listeners on an utterly imaginative, musical merry-go-round. One never knows what moodswung journey they'll embark upon once these musical highwaymen hijack their consciousness.
With imagination at its core, the theatrical flair and intriguing nature of their songwriting has grasped the attention of music lovers from the most critical of music elitists to the average radio listener. Although performing frequently at pop culture and steampunk fandom conventions and festivals, the musical menagerie is widely known for their own extravagant Vaudevillian inspired sold-out spectacles such as 'A Clockwork Wonderland: Through Aether & Mysterium', 'Gadgets & Gobstoppers: The Twisted World of Wonka', and the show that shares the grandiose title of their ambitious debut album "The Great Promenade of Fools & Ghosts"
The group is known the world over for their progressive, psychedelic, punk cabaret stylings, fusing timeworn elements of the old world with newfangled innovation, thus due to the music's mysterious, yet playful nature, they have befittingly dubbed the style "melodic mischief".
The act has composed and licensed music for a variety of film projects & television shows such as the syndicated series 'Charmed', Showtime Network's hit series 'Dexter', and the steampunk short films 'The Mechanical Grave' and 'Amelia'. They've also been featured in such steampunk publications as Race Point Publishing's book 'Anatomy of Steampunk' as well as 'Gearhearts Steampunk Glamor Revue'
Hate them, love them, they demand the world take notice, and merely desire to incite something genuine, to inspire sincere emotion despite the world's mind numbing mediocrity and generic mass production. Marquis of Vaudeville is a tantalizing flavor for even the most finicky musical appetite.
