'Eat more seaweed!'
That's been the buzzword in the superfood circles. Full of vitamins A and B, packed with calcium and iodine, and filled with soluble fibers- this sea vegetable is too good to be true. What's even better? They're bountiful along the beautiful coast of Maine!
To highlight this great Maine ingredient and vibrant food industry, Maine Fare and Vinland will present a special seaweed tasting menu at the upcoming Taste of the Sea dinner. A five course tasting menu will feature wild, sustainably harvested Maine seaweeds in every dish.
Diners are invited to expand their palate as they discover creative ways to enjoy seaweed, and also learn more about the ecology and economy of sea vegetables. Micah Woodcock of Atlantic Holdfast Seaweed, a small company that hand-harvests sea vegetables off of a remote island in Penobscot Bay, will share his knowledge about the history and future of seaweed as an important and nutritious food source.
The dinner will be $45 per person and start at 6 PM. Space is limited and ticket is required. You may purchase tickets online at www.bpt.me/mainefare2015 OR by calling Vinland at 207-653-8617.

Maine Fare is an annual food festival hosted by Maine Farmland Trust and Penobscot East Resource Center that brings everyone to the table -- farmers, fishermen, foodies, nonprofits, chefs, and entrepreneurs -- to celebrate a vibrant and delicious future for Maine food. This year the Maine Fare is offering several Portland area events leading up to the festival, which will be held June 26 and 27 on the waterfront in Belfast.
