Silent Film Heritage: Tribute to Gloria Swanson
Before there was even a place called Hollywood, the Los Angeles communities of Silver Lake, Echo Park, Edendale and Los Feliz served as the incubator for the development of cinema. American film pioneers such as D. W. Griffith, Walt Disney, Mack Sennett and Tom Mix built their studios and homes here. Many of the stars lived in the community as well, including Charlie Chaplin, Ford Sterling, Harry Langdon, Mabel Normand, Fatty Arbuckle, and the subject of this yearâs festival salute to silent film -- Gloria Swanson.
