Cost: $100 Davida Monk is a nationally celebrated dance artist who began her professional career in 1985 with Le Groupe de la Place Royale of Ottawa. Monk teaches, directs, creates, performs and tours her works, as well as those created in collaboration with fellow artists from a range of disciplines. She is Associate Professor Emeritus University of Calgary, and Artistic Director of m-body: mind and music in motion and of Dancers' Studio West. How to Listen to Canadian Music The world of contemporary music doesn't have to be intimidating. Join Juno award-winning composer Allan Gordon Bell to explore the rich heritage of music inspired by the vast and varied landscape and cultures of Canada. Cost: $100 Allan Gordon Bell is a composer, Professor of Music at the University of Calgary, Associate Composer and Past-President of the Canadian Music Centre, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Member of the Order of Canada, and the winner of the 2014 JUNO for Classical Composition of the Year. How to Find Your Inner Drummer What if you could march to the beat of your own inner drummer? We all have rhythm inside us, from our first heartbeat to our last breath. We are surrounded by rhythms and music every day. Give free expression to the music you carry inside you. Guided by jazz drummer and percussionist Robin Tufts, use drums and body percussion for an afternoon of joyful noise that will help you reach the stillness at your centre. Saturday, May 23, 1-4 pm at W&M Dance Projects of Calgary, 4005 9th St. SE (Bay 9). Cost: $100 Robin Tufts is a drummer, percussionist and dance accompanist. He is active in the Calgary jazz community, playing with his own Trio Velocity ensemble and many others. They recently released ~ Like Water for Air ~. Robin is accompanist for Alberta Ballet, Decidedly Jazz Dance, Dancers Studio West and Stage West, and has led the accompanist group for the of dance program at the University of Calgary for 20 years. Robin's recent project has been a series of house concerts and CDs, Music for Soup, featuring spontaneous duets. How to Transcend This beginner-friendly yoga workshop, led by facilitator and choreographer Kyrsten Blair, celebrates Spring a time of intense growth and creativity. Breathe, reflect, flow and fashion a group mandala, symbolizing a path towards balance, unity and personal expression. Kyrsten Blair is an educator, choreographer, rehearsal director, and workshop facilitator. She draws inspiration from a wide range of sources, including Yoga, tai chi, classical Indian and Javanese dance, jazz and improvisation. Kyrsten is the contemporary teacher for the School Of Alberta Ballet and guides weekly classes with Dancing Parkinson's Project, the Golden Age Club and Cambrian Heights Community Association.
