Dayna Macy debuts her food memoir Ravenous
Dayna Macy will launch her food memoir, Ravenous: A Food Lover's Journey from Obsession to Freedom, on Thursday, February 3, at 7:30 pm at the Hillside Club. She will be interviewed by Dianne Jacob, teacher and cookbook author of Will Write for Food. Hors d'oeuvres will be served by Bill Briscoe of The Bread Workshop who is featured in the book.
"How I made peace with my appetite and my body." Dayna Macy used to love to eat. Probably she still does. But she found a way to address her daily hunger and replace it with reason and a healthy diet. Ravenous is a telling of this process, from the obsession with olives and chocolate to eating with awareness and compassion for her self. The book shows Macy's humanity and her success in changing the way she approaches life. She explores her complicated relationship with food, and in the process meets with California farmers, food artisans, butchers, a Zen chef, a forager, and a chocolatier.
Dayna Macy's essays have appeared in Self, Salon, Yoga Journal, and other publications, and in several anthologies. For the last decade she has worked at Yoga Journal as Communications Director, and now also as the Managing Editor for International Editions. She lives in Berkeley, California with her husband, writer Scott Rosenberg, and their two sons.
