Symphony Parnassus Concert: Spring Fever
Symphony Parnassus, with music director Stephen Paulson, will celebrate the coming of Spring with a rarity, a premiere and a rite!
The concert will begin with Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla's "Suite Punta del Este" for Bandoneon and Orchestra. The bandoneon is a relative of the accordion, and is one of the principal instruments of the Tango tradition. The Bay Area's leading bandoneon player, Seth Asarnow, will be the soloist.
The young composer Stefan Cwik won the hearts of audience members and musicians last season, when Symphony Parnassus presented the premiere of his "Concert Dances for Orchestra." The orchestra is pleased to present another Cwik premiere, this time his "Piano Concerto" with San Francisco Conservatory of Music professor Scott Foglesong as soloist.
After intermission, Paulson and Symphony Parnassus will take on one of the biggest challenges for any orchestra, Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring." With its hugely extended instrumentation and mind expanding rhythms, this is sure to please!
