Valentine Concert with Gail Pettis & Her Band
Jazz vocalist Gail Pettis has quickly risen to prominence as a sought-after performer in the Northwest. For the last ten years, this granddaughter of a Mississippi bluesman has been delighting audiences with her warm vocals and innovative interpretations of jazz standards, inspiring comparisons to Nancy Wilson, Sarah Vaughn and Carmen McRae. A recent review praised her voice as a "finely tuned instrument that swings with shear ease, caresses the senses, produces soulful gusts and oozes the blues." Gail's debut CD received international airplay, and her most recent recording reached #5 on the JazzWeek national airplay chart. Gail performs at well-known jazz clubs in the Seattle area, including Tulas and the Sorrento Hotel's Fireside Room, and has appeared at jazz festivals from Anacortes to Kobe, Japan. Pianist Randy Halberstadt and bassist Clipper Anderson will join Gail for these performances. A brilliant pianist, composer, arranger, accompanist, and author, Randy also is a full professor at The Cornish College of the Arts. When he is not accompanying the likes of Greta Matassa, Karrin Allyson and Ernestine Anderson, he can be heard playing with the esteemed Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and at clubs and festivals throughout the Northwest. Clipper Anderson is one of the Northwest's leading jazz bassists, as well as a composer, studio musician, and professor at Pacific Lutheran University.
