Snap on 2&4 w/ the Jamey Aebersold Quartet
NJW is pleased to welcome the Jamey Aebersold Quartet to the stage of the Jazz Cave for a special Snap on 2&4 concert, Friday, April 24 at 8pm.
Jamey Aebersold is an internationally-known saxophonist and authority on jazz education and improvisation. His extremely popular series of "Play-A-Long" books and CD's (now numbering almost 130 volumes) which allow a musician the opportunity to practice and improvise with well-known jazz personalities at home as well as in the classroom, has been responsible for changing the practice habits of thousands of musicians around the world.
Jamey is also the director of the Summer Jazz Workshops, which he has done for more than 40 years. These annual week-long workshops have influenced countless musicians on the scene today.
Aebersold earned his Masters Degree in Saxophone from the prestigious Indiana University in 1962, and was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Music there in 1992. In 1989, the International Association of Jazz Educators inducted Jamey into their Hall of Fame at the San Diego convention. With this award, Jamey joined other jazz luminaries such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong and others.
One of the "ABC's" of jazz education (Aebersold, Baker, and Coker), the man can also play! This is going to be an amazing night of music and a chance to hear live someone that many of us have spent years rehearsing with on CD. His quartet will also feature Steve Allee on piano, Tyrone Wheeler on bass, and Jonathan Higgins on drums.
There will be two sets beginning at 8:00 pm in the Jazz Cave at the Workshop. Admission is $20 / $10 high school and college students with ID. Tickets will go on sale Monday April 13 at 10AM and will be available online on this page, by phone 24/7 at Brown Paper Tickets (800-838-3006) or during business hours at the NJW office (242-5299). A small convenience charge is added to online or 800-number purchases.
