When Worlds Collide
KPCC, in partnership with Latino Heritage, presents a screening of "When Worlds Collide"
"When Worlds Collide" presents a vivid exploration of the first century after the Old World encountered the New World. This 90-minute documentary begins on the streets of Los Angeles in 2010 and travels to Spain and Latin America in the 16th century where contact first occurred between Spanish conquistadors and native peoples.
In reality, the most important consequence of the era was the radical change that both worlds experienced, resulting in an entirely new "mestizo" or mixed culture, an important part of the heritage of more than 30 million Latinos in the U.S. today. "When Worlds Collide" weaves an extraordinary and unexpected story of the foundation of modern Latino culture.
The post-reading Q&A will be moderated by KPCC's Adolpho Guzman-Lopez and will feature Rubén Martínez, director of "When Worlds Collide".
Co-sponsors include NAACP of Pasadena and the YWCA Pasadena-Foothills Valley.
