Since 2011, UCS' annual Human Service Summits have focused on growing poverty in suburban Johnson County, Kansas. Experts from across the nation have shared about similar growth in other suburban communities and possible strategies to address poverty and expand opportunity for struggling residents.
In 2015, UCS is asking local agencies, organizations, governments, and individuals to put what they've learned about what works into practice. Recently, UCS has been working with County government to identify and implement strategic changes in practices and policies within county-level departments to support residents' capacities to sustainably meet their household's needs and improve long term outcomes.
Following learning about current conditions for those struggling in the county, the services in place through public and private organizations to support them, and planned and implemented County departments' actions related to poverty reduction, participants will be asked to join one of three groups to identify how they can act either organizationally or individually to improve outcomes for those living in poverty.
Check-in and a continental breakfast begins at 8:00 am June 9th, with the Summit's program beginning at 8:30 a.m.
