Event
4th Annual Urban Poverty Forum
This year's forum focuses on the disproportionate percentage of blacks and immigrants in poverty and the systemic factors that fuel the disparity. Bringing together institutions of faith, nonprofit agencies, and concerned citizens to inform the community as well as improve the coordination, access, and quality of services for Seattleites living in poverty, the event will include a demonstration by Tim Thomas using the Geographic Information System to illustrate discrimination in the allocation of public resources; an exploration of the systemic causes of illegal immigration from Pramila Jayapal (One America); Seattle University professor A. Daktari Alexander on race, crime and justice; a dramatic presentation by Sharon Williams of the Mahogany Project; a scriptural perspective on poverty by Kris Rocke; and a Q&A moderated by Real Change's Tim Harris. Presented by Seattle First Presbyterian Church, Seattle University, Union Church Seattle, and Town Hall.
