An Acoustic Evening with Poet's Row, The Young Readers and decker.
Come join Leon for an acoustic evening with with Poet's Row, The Young Readers and decker. Comprised of two local Denver friends, Poet's Row create some of the simplest and most vulnerable releases coming out of the Denver area. The fairly new and growing band, The Young Readers, provide listeners with "honest and heartfelt" acoustic tunes. Last but certainly not least, decker., the AZ based songwriter, envelopes with the crowd with an expansive palette of folk, gospel, rock and psychedelia music. This is a musically genius night you won't want to miss out on.
On Poet's Row:
Comprised of Mickey Bakas and Emily Hobbs, Poet's Row taking its name from the cluster of Capitol Hill apartment buildings where Bakas and Hobbs met create some of the simplest and most vulnerable releases coming out of the Denver area. The duo's gossamer harmonies accompanied by an unadorned guitar gently cut a path straight to the heart creating adorable, heartfelt folk.
On The Young Readers:
Young Readers is in fact a fairly new and growing band. With less than a year under their belts, Young Readers have played at SXSW, FreeTulsa Music Festival, and have toured all the way up the East Coast to play at The Kahbang Music Festival in Maine with bands like Deftones, Bassnectar, Wale, and Now, Now. Young Readers have been selected to play at NXNE 2013 in Toronto, Canada. Their debut EP Family Trees has been praised nationally and in other parts of the world as "honest and heartfelt" and was included in "The Top Ten Best Local Albums of 2012" (The Oklahoma Gazette) as well as other great end-of-the-year lists. However, Young Readers probably owe half of their rising popularity to the interactive packaging of the EP. Each physical copy is printed on construction paper and comes with an individual box of crayons, allowing the listener to color the album artwork the way they see fit or rack their brains on the 22 bank word search on the back. The future is looking very promising and Young Readers hope to add more warm welcomes to their hearts as they continue to tour at every opportunity.
On decker.:
"When people ask what kind of music I playI don't really know what to say. All I can really say is that the desert is integral to my sound." So says Brandon Decker. Since 2009, the Sedona, AZ based songwriter has written, produced and released a trove of mesmerizing music; an expansive palette of folk, gospel, rock and psychedelia recorded under the nom de plume decker. "Tailor-made for a Coen Brothers western," as one reviewer put it, "the music is dark, atmospheric and uncomfortably honest." While hard to pigeonhole, there's a purposeful duality to decker.'s work; it's sparse while full. Also: intense, romantic, cryptic and raw. All those characteristics and more are readily apparent on Patsy, decker.'s latest release and follow-up to 2013's much-hailed "desert gospel masterpiece" Slider. Recorded at WaveLab Recording Studio (Neko Case, Iron & Wine, DeVotchKa) in Tucson, Patsy veers from quiet shuffles to noisy guitar jams and horn-driven ballads, but never becomes quixotic or difficult. It's hypnotic stuff. And a huge leap forward for the singer. "You're always evolving," he explains. "If we're not evolving, something is wrong."
