White Nights: Heaven and Earth
The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia returns this spring with "White Nights" one of their yearly chamber music festivals, this year programmed around the joyous and soulful music of the world's most Northern countries - the lands of the midnight sun! The festival brings together nine celebrated musicians - international competition winners, favorite performers from Richmond's classical music scene, and world-class soloists - to bring this thrilling music to life in concerts in our modernist venue at the First Unitarian Church, the historic Wilton House museum, and the Gellman Room of the Main Public Library in downtown Richmond
The festival opens on Friday, May 13 to 7:30pm with "Heaven and Earth," a program inspired by the sacred and folk music of Russia, Denmark, Estonia and Norway. It features romantic string quartets by Anton Arensky and Carl Nielsen, Sergei Prokofieff's magical flute sonata, and the haunting music of Arvo Part.
