Production Basics: Camera with Tom Krymkowski
"Camera Basics" is just that - the basics. An alternate title might be "Camera for PA's and Directors" I'm going to assume you know absolutely nothing and suddenly you're promoted to Operator or even Cinematographer for the film you're working on. Cinematography is something you "grok" and can't learn in a linear fashion, because changing one thing often changes another. But you most definitely can learn it! In this course I'll try to stay away from things getting TOO technical - which is hard to do with a technical job - and keep to what you absolutely need for your shoot to go smoothly. So bring your best camera related questions. In fact if you can, bring your camera, or your phone with a camera app. However, no equipment is necessary for this course. I'll be bringing my trusty rig so we'll have something to work with. Here's what I'd like to cover in the three hours that we have together:
Job Responsibilities in a typical Camera Department DP Operator AC Setup Power Support Camera Familiarity Media Operation Color Temperature Frame Rate Framing/Aspect Ratios Focus Depth of Field Exposure Working through the Shot List Setup Routine and Moving between Setups Scanning for a "Clean Frame" Covering the Lens Monitoring Power and Media Shooting for the Edit Completion Delivery of footage
Space is extremely limited to just 8 spots.
Please note that this event will be videotaped for the production 'Scary Cow Classes.' By participating in this class, you consent to being filmed. Please contact cow@scarycow.com with any questions.
