Ktisk Contemporary Dance presents Rhyme Nor Reason
Ktisk Contemporary Dance presents Rhyme Nor Reason, May 8th & 9th at Velocity Dance Center (1621 12th Ave, Seattle). Inspired by nursery rhymes, four local choreographers premiere an evening of themed works exploring the hidden meanings, present-day connotations, and musicality of these childhood poems. Join Rachael Forstrom, Noelle Chun, Eric Agular, and Philippa Myler as they reimagine the familiar verses of Ring Around the Rosie as a post-apocalyptic landscape, Jack Sprat as the search to find a soulmate, Rockabye Baby as a cosmic lullaby, and more. Play along with us, as we learn grown-up lessons through childhood games and songs.
Featuring dance performance by Eric Eugene Aguilar, Elrey Belmonti, Faith Coben, Michaela Federspiel, Rachael Forstrom, Lauren Linder, Philippa Myler, Jessica Pavilanis, Ingrid Porter, and Drew Santoro, original music by Issac Costello and Kyle Forstrom, costuming by Jamie Maslach, visual art by Molly Cook
Doors open at 7:00pm, show starts promptly at 7:30. Seating is limited, we recommend buying tickets in advance online through brownpapertickets.com. Online sales close the day of the performance and then will be available by cash only at the door only. Rhyme Nor Reason is supported by Velocity Dance Center's Access Velocity program.
ABOUT Ktisk
Ktisk Contemporary Dance creates an eclectic fusion of modern, ballet, and jazz. We base our work on a high caliber of technical training with strong attention to the classical line. Ktisk presents pieces that inspire the audience to think, move and experience, sharing our passion for dance and performance through athleticism and genuine raw emotion. The company's works explore a wide range of emotions, from serious and contemplative to humorous and light-hearted. Ktisk seeks to push the body's physical and mental limits by connecting movement, story, and emotion, diverging from pure technique and driving toward theatrically-based performance art.
Ktisk Contemporary Dance (originally Ebb and Flow Dance Co.) was established in January, 2008 by owner and founding Artistic Director, Rachael Forstrom in Columbus, OH. Ktisk's work has been seen at both the Columbus Dance Festival and Seattle International Dance Festival. Newly relocated in 2014, Ktisk is excited to continue in creating and performing in the Pacific Northwest region. Ktisk is passionate about expanding the audience for dance. The company creates work for both the dance community as well as those who have not yet experienced dance. It is the company's belief that dance is meant for all and all are meant to dance. As Ktisk grows and evolves in our new home, we hope to share our excitement not just in the concert setting but with local schools, charitable organizations, and elsewhere throughout the greater Seattle community.
