MC Hansen & Matt Harlan
Matt Harlan makes his return to the Rear Window, this time with MC Hansen. Matt is from Houston, and is a very gifted songwriter and guitarist. If there is a performer today that embodies the oft-applied and rarely understood moniker of a songwriter's songwriter, it is Houston favorite, Matt Harlan. With songs that are already well known in many circles Harlanâs studio work is just beginning to make its mark with his debut studio release, Tips & Compliments. Born and raised in Texas, Harlan soaked up the richness of the state and its song-smiths while bouncing between its big cities and small towns. On his debut, Harlan exposes this range of influences, interpreting a generation steeped in plastic yet filtered through the Hill Country limestone. His expressive vocals recall Chris Smither and Chris Knight, shading his poignant songs with soaring heart and aching grit. Matt's songwriting has been getting some recognition lately with awards from the Billboard World Songwriting Contest, American Songwriter Magazine, the Wildflower Arts & Music Festival, Snowbird Mountain Music Festival and as a Regional New Folk winner at Kerrville. Americana fans should be familiar with the stellar crew that joins Harlan on Tips & Compliments. Produced by Rich Brotherton, the disc features vocals from Phoebe Hunt (Belleville Outfit), fiddle from Warren Hood, and Marty Muse (Robert Earl Keen) on pedal steel.
MC Hansen! "Traveling Musician since 2003!" from MC himself ... Hey there! My name is MC Hansen; I am a professional Danish folk singer and guitar slinger. I have played shows all over Europe from The Olympia in Paris to a highway diner on the Swedish island of Gotland since I started making a living as a musician in 2003. People have listened to my songs at festivals, in living rooms, symphony halls, in clubs, at libraries and in backyards. I take pride in calling myself a minstrel! I have songs about Judgment Day, folk songs, songs about the moon, the seasons, train songs, songs about traffic and I have even got a few songs you can dance to if you just can't help it! Some people call my music "country music," some say it is "folk" and I know people who think I am from Ireland! I don't know where my songs come from, but I hope you will like them, because that is why I play them!! This promises to be another stellar evening at the Rear Window. Lori at the Ganado Cafe will be catering a meal fit for royalty, of which the menu will be posted later. The meal is not included in the ticket price, but is paid for separately at the door $9.00, including tax. It is always excellent!
