JIM J. BULLOCK DEBUT'S NEW MUSICAL CABARET IN PALM DESERT
The Desert will have a rare opportunity to see a new one-man musical presented by Jim J. Bullock on Sunday, January 23rd at 7 PM at the Arthur Newman Theatre at The Joslyn Center in Palm Desert. The show entitled "Different" will use songs and stories to highlight the ups and downs of Jim's personal life and extensive show-business career.
And what a career! While attending Oklahoma Baptist University, Jim J. Bullock won a "best actor award" and a shinny, plastic, golden statue for his portrayal in Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and he was hooked! He then moved to Hollywood to hone his craft at the renowned Lee Strasbourg Theatre Institute. In 1978, Jim J., by way of "Godspell", began his stand-up career performing regularly at the famed Comedy Store and Improv, where he was discovered by an ABC scout and offered the role as Ted Knight's sidekick, Monroe Ficus, on "Too Close For Comfort" for six successful seasons. Jim is also known as the ever-sleepy Prince Valium in Mel Brooks' classic "Spaceballs" and three seasons as the upper right square on "The Hollywood Squares" and one season with "Alf". In 1990, Jim spent two years in Toronto in a series called "Boogie's Diner", followed by the unique partnership with Tammy Faye (Baker) Messner on daytime TV's "The Jim J. & Tammy Faye Show". LA critics gave Jim J. glowing reviews for his role in the award winning "The End Of The World Party" (in which he also starred Off-Broadway) and "When Pigs Fly", winning the LA Drama Critics Award. Jim J. is the voice of the title character in the animated series "Queer Duck" and "Queer Duck - The Movie" and recurring roles in Nickelodeon's "Ned's Declassified", "The Bold And The Beautiful" on CBS, and two years as Wilbur Turnblad in both the Broadway production and 1st National Tour of "Hairspray".
Jim J. Bullock's new one-man musical show is entitled "Different" and marks the 29th presentation of producer Les Michaels and Life Is A Cabaret Entertainment at the Joslyn Center's Arthur Newman Theatre since last July. Joining Jim J. is pianist Gary Mattison and show time for this Sunday, January 23rd performance will be 7 PM with box office opening at 6 PM with complimentary wine before the show. Tickets are $10 cash only at the door of the theatre, which is located at 73-750 Catalina Way in Palm Desert. Reservations are requested by calling 760-325-2731.
