Squirrel Shoulder Mount or Pedestal Mount Class
Date: Sunday, May 24th Time: 12 to 6pm Admission: $275 Location: Morbid Anatomy Museum, 424 Third Avenue, 11215 Brooklyn NY
This class will introduce students to basic small mammal taxidermy processes. Each student will be provided with his or her own tanned squirrel cape (skinned from the chest up), which they will finish fleshing and prep for mounting. Students have the option of either a grey squirrel or a fox squirrel, and either a shoulder mount form or a pedestal form. Pictured is a grey squirrel shoulder mount and a fox squirrel pedestal. Shoulder mounts are wall mounts whereas pedestals are tabletop mounts and need a flat display space. Bases and panels will be supplied. I will provide all specimens, materials, and tools for the class. Each student will leave with his or her own finished mount. No skinning occurs in this class.
No harsh chemicals are used in class. Gloves are provided. All animals are disease/mite free.
Animals are sourced through roadkill, scraps from other taxidermists, donations, abatement/nuisance work, pet industry casualties, frozen feeders, and discards from the food service industry.
Katie Innamorato is one of our taxidermists in residence and is a professionally trained taxidermy artist. She is an active MART and Garden State Taxidermist Association member. Her work has been featured on the TV shows "Oddities and Odd Folks Home," displayed at La Luz de Jesus Gallery in Los Angeles and various other galleries. She was recently published in the book Taxidermy Art by Robert Marbury and featured on Vice. She has also done demonstrations and lectures at the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and at The Institute Library in Connecticut.
